After being told that we need to think of ideas for our new project being the book for children.

I thought about doing something like adoption, seen as my little brother is fostered and lives with us until he is 21 and he has lots of siblings some older and some younger. The younger ones all got adopted and he doesn’t see them and he finds it very hard to understand or deal with. So this gave me an idea to create a book for children his age (12) or even younger to understand.

My first thought was to maybe use animals instead of humans as children tend to understand and enjoy books more if its about animals. I started to think of which animal to use and remember that pandas are often abandon by there mother so children can relate, also pandas are pretty cute.

When a panda is first born they are helpless and need taking care of for a few months, they start to crawl around 3 months and around 4 months can run and take a few steps, around 1.5/2 they tend to leave there mothers at there decision.

The main reason that pandas don’t look after two babies is because baby pandas need so much attention when they are born so the mother picks which one she wants and normally after birth the other babies will die. Another known fact is that the father has nothing to do with the raising of a baby at any point.

I started to look for drawings of pandas to get an understanding of them and draw up some ideas of how I could like the characters to look for my story.

After having my workshop today with Chris, I was so keen on my idea I stuck with it and did not think to change it around a little. Chris gave me a start with adjusting a few parts of my official logo look. The picture above is a few ideas which helped me a lot more because I may be able to use just the silhouette of the beard, hair and glasses on my brochure.

I found these different logo designs which had the watercolour type of background and It really interested me because of the idea of having colour behind the logo making it stand out and different. By finding this I started to look at how to create water colours on photoshop. This is a working piece of work with the colours for my logo.

In my workshop I was looking at different french type of fonts and came across this specific one and sadly it costs £104.99 which I don’t have and don’t particular think will make my work worth that much. So I looked around for similar fonts like this and made sure it had a french type of look to it.In my brochure I’m going to have a section which helps people understand how to maintain there beard and give tips about having the right beard for the face shape. So I found this illustration and want to create my own version but similar to this, may take out the nose and eyebrow and just have a mouth. I think this will make the brochure more interactive and fun for the men reading it.

After spending a lot of time on my logo to try and perfect the little areas, I started to look in to brochures a little more and what type I’m going to be making.

I prefer the trifold which looks like a triangle when all corners are touching, I think this way I can have both sides covered and If I’m wanting to I could also have a double page spread in the middle of the brochure. I knew from the start I didn’t want to make a simple gate brochure like most are made so thought as the barber is a little unique why not make the brochure and logo all unique.

Some ideas to use in the brochure are to keep the triangle effect from the logo on the pages but have the opacity low so you can still read on top of the image.
